Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology
Mississippi State University
My name is Dr. Zachary Gillen, Ph.D., CSCS*D, USAW-1 and I am an Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology in the Department of Kinesiology at Mississippi State University (MSU). Prior to my appointment at MSU, I was a doctoral student under Dr. Joel Cramer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My primary research interests involve understanding the underlying mechanisms leading to increases in muscle strength and power in response to various stimuli across the lifespan. Much of my research involves the noninvasive assessment of muscle form and function through isometric muscle actions, isokinetic dynamometry, dynamic constant external resistance exercise, electromyographic and mechanomyographic recordings, voluntary and nonvoluntary strenth assessments, and ultrasonography. At MSU I teach undergraduate and graduate courses including exercise physiology, training techniques, motor learning, advanced exercise physiology, and research methods. I currently live in Starkville, MS with my wife of 8 years, Samantha, and our two chocolate labs, Griff and Tex.
